Hi all, Randall here with PlaceOfClocks.com.  It has been an interesting week with all the rhetoric about cutting spending and reducing the deficit.   Is there any one out there besides me that is tired of the grandstanding and politics?  It seems to me that the congress and the president have had plenty of time to deal with these issues.  So why wait till the last minute?   Maybe it has something to do with being able to stir up the public and be seen on National TV….You think?

Anyway, here in the clock world I thought I would post an American made Grandfather Clock from Ridgeway Clocks.  Excellent quality with clear distinct chimes and lots of extras.

A high quality Grandfather clock with decorative hardwood and veneers, and a clear distinct chime.

• A gracefully shaped solid bonnet with a raised burl accent on the front crown looks stunning in the Treasure Oak finish on select hardwoods and veneers. Reeded posts with turned capitols surround the clock’s dial and a detailed embossed molding runs along the bottom of the front locking door.
• A functioning pierced moon dial with raised Arabic numerals, decorative embossed center and corner designs compliment the matching banded weight shells and lyre pendulum with 10 5/8” (270mm) embossed center disk. A fancy burl image on the back panel is highlited by an internal light and completes the ensemble and can be viewed from the side glass panels and locking front beveled glass door.
• A triple chime cable driven movement plays Westminster, Whittington and St. Michael’s chimes and can be silenced through the night with an automatic night silence option.
• A free engraved brass plate and two year warranty are included with this clock.

The first authentic carriage clock was made in Paris at the start of the Nineteenth Century by Abraham-Luis Breguet (1747-1823). Carriage clocks are also known in France as “officers’ clocks” and the name is based on an historical anecdote. It is said that Napoleon, having almost lost a battle because one of his officers was late, ordered his officers to carry a carriage clocks with them at all times. Orders placed with master clock makers at the time always included the reference “a clock for an officer” and this brought the name in common usage.
