Hi all. Here are a few simple rules to help you decorate your home.
1. Pay attention to the size of your “special items”. The ones that decorate your walls, or shelves. Size does impress, but it can also be a real distraction and take away from your other treasures that are on display. Ask yourself if the largest item in your living room is what you want people to see first.
2. Spend time thinking of how your guests will see your home. This is one of the secrets of a good home decorator. They are able to put themselves in the “guest” mode and look at your home through different eyes. A new perspective often brings great enjoyment if applied to pictures or clocks.
3. A small item, on a shelf or placed strategically on a TV or mantel can often brighten a room. Unique items, something with different colors and shapes are great conversation pieces.
4. You can use decorative clocks and designer paintings as focus points, but your main color scheme is critical. Match the wood in your clocks to your home decor. For example, white oak goes well with some of the more modern furniture. White is in.
5. Always be careful about placing too much clutter in a room. It overwhelms your guest and can create a frustrating feeling for those that are more used to simple living.
6. Your space, your home, express yourself. It really is an expression of you.
